About CSC’s High Performance Computing Center of Excellence

The High Performance Computing Center of Excellence enables CSC to stay current in HPC technologies and technology trends. It has established unique procedures for operation, maintenance, administration, software engineering and integration, resulting in continual increases in performance and competitive position. Combining the Center's expertise in HPC with CSC's deep experience in specific government and commercial sectors results in tailored and focused solutions.

The Center offers a total integrated technical solution to HPC system design. The solution includes the compute engine's storage system, system operation and tuning, scientific visualization, high-speed networking, code migration and modernization, system acquisition and facilities design. In addition, the Center offers outsourcing, user services and application support. CSC ensures technology currency and strict functional procedures for each of these areas.

The Center has five special interest groups that focus on HPC functions for overall system support and operations:

·         Software engineering and code modernization

·         Systems operation and administration

·         Networking

·         Storage and file management systems

·         Integrated system design (vendor advocacy)

Each special interest group is chartered to develop techniques to leverage resources, processes and technologies across the multiple HPC centers; maintain a high level of technology awareness across each of the programs; continuously improve the technical staff composition; and support new business development through progressive engagements.

Clients working with the Center benefit from its knowledge of best practices, joint technology sessions, complete life cycle support, highly experienced personnel and the availability of outsourcing capabilities.

During the past year, the Center has won three major engagements, two under the U.S. Department of Defense and one with the State of Alabama. In addition, the Center supports two NASA facilities and maintains close contacts with most of the major suppliers of HPC products and services.
