September 11, 2007, VMworld, San Francisco
- Platform Computing, a leading systems infrastructure
software company, and XenSource, the leading provider of
enterprise-class virtualization solutions based on the open
source Xen hypervisor, today announced an OEM agreement that
enables Platform to integrate and bundle XenEnterprise v4 with
the new version of their VM Orchestrator (VMO) solution.
Under terms of the agreement, Platform will embed
XenEnterprise v4 with VMO as part of a complete VM life cycle
management solution, offering best of breed dynamic resource
management, self-service functionality, and resource aware
high availability (HA), all from a common web-based management
console. A core element of VMO is Enterprise Grid
Orchestrator™ (EGO)—a proven management environment and policy
engine that dynamically allocates shared resources based on
application priority and workload. The two companies will
participate in joint marketing activities including an
upcoming webinar.
"XenSource is committed to an open ISV ecosystem, with an
open product that allows best-of-breed solution vendors such
as Platform Computing to complement XenEnterprise v4 with
value-added features," said Simon Crosby, CTO, XenSource.
"Platform worked closely with XenSource during the v4
engineering cycle. It is exciting to see powerful technologies
from grid computing, like Platform’s Enterprise Grid
Orchestrator™ applied to the automation of virtual
infrastructure. Integration with XenEnterprise v4 extends
Platform’s leading enterprise grid technologies with the
ability to deliver fully automated virtual infrastructure."
Introduced in August 2007, XenEnterprise v4 includes
XenMotion™ for live migration of running virtual machines;
XenCenter™, a scalable, resilient virtual infrastructure
management framework integrated into every host; an open,
standards-based XenAPI which enables ISVs and OEMs to develop
add-on solutions for XenEnterprise v4; and, a powerful 64-bit
hypervisor that supports both 32- and 64-bit enterprise
workloads.
This release includes version 3.1 of the Xen open source
hypervisor and leverages the latest hardware virtualization
support features from Intel and AMD to deliver near bare metal
performance. Benefiting from XenSource’s comprehensive 24x7
regression testing on hundreds of hosts worldwide,
XenEnterprise is without doubt the highest performance and
most robust virtualization platform available.
"XenSource is an emerging leader in the virtualization
space offering excellent performance and stability as well as
a must-have virtualization feature set in XenEnterprise v4,"
said Jingwen Wang, Vice President of Products, Platform
Computing. "XenSource has been supportive of Platform
Computing as a leading ISV whose technology offers a powerful
complement to the XenSource product. We are confident this
agreement will offer significant business value to
XenEnterprise customers looking for dynamic resource
management in the datacenter."
