Platform Computing Grid-enables Complex Microsoft™ Excel Spreadsheets to Deliver Dramatically Faster Results for Financial Industry Traders
Platform Computing, the leader in grid software, today announces the introduction of grid capability for Microsoft™ Excel. The Adapter for Microsoft™ Excel is now a standard feature of Platform Symphony Suite, software that accelerates online and batch operations for business-critical financial services applications. This new feature enables the supercharged processing of compute-intensive Microsoft™ Excel spreadsheets by transparently distributing the calculations through Platform Symphony to any number of internal compute clusters, rapidly decreasing calculation time while increasing server utilization and guaranteeing trader service levels.
Faster Spreadsheet Processing: More Trades, Increased Trading Revenues Traditionally, the demanding compute-intensive models such as those involved in exotics or derivatives trading meant that program updating was an expensive, time-consuming and occasionally incomplete exercise. And reprogramming spreadsheets was not a viable option for analytics departments who often deploy hundreds of such complex spreadsheets. Now, with the Adapter for Microsoft Excel, both the user and organization can speed and increase the number of trades by significantly accelerating spreadsheet processing via the grid. The outcome is increased trading revenues, profits and lower business risk.
Other Key Benefits
- Improved protection of critical organizational IP – intellectual property is now controlled via single point of centralized control and no longer distributed to each desktop, reducing the likelihood of IP leaving the organization.
- Immediate program updates ensure all users are on the same version - centralized control ensures automatic updating of XLLs and changes are made in virtually real-time.
- Ease of deployment delivers value quickly and saves money – time and cost savings trace to a simple set up, plus no requirement for new programming. Easy 'select and click' operations quickly enable worksheets and specify cells for computation.
"By allowing users to quickly grid-enable Microsoft™ Excel applications without the need to write new code, Platform Computing continues to provide enterprises with business computing breakthroughs that demonstrate tangible benefits and instant ROI," said Greg Rankich, HPC Solution Manager, Microsoft™ Corp. "We look forward to furthering our relationship as more business-critical applications like Excel move to grid computing."
"In the financial services industry, where every second saved in calculations means a major competitive advantage, grid-enabling a pervasive application such as Microsoft™ Excel means faster time to increased revenue and profit," said Robert Boettcher, VP, Financial Services, Platform Computing. "Platform Computing is leading the adoption of grid capabilities in financial services. We see more enterprises embrace the benefits of grid computing to provide decision-makers the ability to run more complex risk analysis and simulations faster than ever before."
