The role of the Platform Computing Technical Consultant is to help Platform’s clients realize business value from Platform’s Grid Computing and Workload Management solutions. Platform’s solutions allow ISV software applications, custom client-developed applications and key business processes to be dramatically accelerated while increasing computer system asset utilization. Reporting to the manager of Service Delivery for Platform, the Professional Services Consultant will reside in the New York area principally serving Financial Services sector clients. The consultant will be required to travel frequently through the continental United States and internationally as required to propose and deliver for fee Professional Services engagements. Day to day duties will include scoping project requirements, assisting with sales proposals, onsite or remote delivery services engagements and managing business processes including time tracking, change management and customer signoff. The Professional Services consultant at Platform is a highly skilled individual who is expected to be billable in excess of 50% of the time. When not billable, the PS consultant will work on skills development, self-training, assist other consultants remotely or will assist with sales and marketing activities as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Work with customers to implement grid-computing solutions, promoting high levels of customer satisfaction with Platform’s products and services.
- Design and implement technology solutions that enable customers to integrate their ISV or in-house developed applications to make use of grid computing and workload management technologies from Platform.
- Coordinate activities with sales, engineering, and customers to ensure project success and appropriately manage technical risk and customer issues.
- Project scoping, estimates of level of effort and assessments of consultant expertise needed to meet project requirements.
- The Platform consultant, in addition to scoping and delivering work, will often assist Platform’s sales organization on sales calls, responding to customer inquiries, and requests for proposals (RFPs)
- The consultant will keep abreast of the latest developments in grid or distributed computing technologies relevant to our customer's environments. They will also maintain a high level of knowledge related to Platform’s products as well as those of our competitors and partners
- In the course of consulting work, the consultant will deliver technical presentations and be responsible for completing quality documentation.
- As required, consultants may be asked to deliver formal training as a part of Platform’s training services depending on the consultant’s level of knowledge of and comfort with particular Platform products.
- Conduct onsite customer workshops to assist customers with deploying complex grid computing environments.
- Produce high quality project documentation including input to statements of work (generally written by Platform’s services managers), acceptance test plans, customer acceptance letters, site "run books" etc.
- Work intimately with Platform’s core engineering group to understand product functionality and provide customer feedback and requirements to help steer product development
- Work with Third Party vendors and Systems Integrator in either a leadership or subordinate role as appropriate for the engagement.
Requirements
- Given the technical nature of our products and solutions, intermediate (or better) programming experience in C/C++, Java as well as a strong knowledge of scripting environments would be an asset for this role.
- Experience with web based solution deployments using Apache on Linux as well as complementary technologies such as Tomcat & Java would be considered an asset.
- System Administration Experience in Linux/UNIX and Windows computing environments is considered a plus for this role
- The ideal candidate will have good of knowledge of Platform’s Symphony / LSF environment.
- The ideal candidate will have experience working in or supporting Financial Services environments
- Candidate must be self motivated, must have an ability to work well in geographically dispersed team environment, must exhibit a positive and professional attitude, and pay attention to detail
- Project management and professional services consulting experience highly desirable
